Happy Monday!

I haven't been posting because my computer AND my cell phone pooped out! This has essentially killed my Sunrise Project, but oh well! I have a lot of catching up to do after I get it fixed! But hey! It's Monday! A fresh start! Embrace it!

Sunrise Project: Day 4

It's a rainy day, which I LOVE, but there wasn't a sunrise this morning. Not a colorful one on my drive, at least! Everything is just as sleepy as I feel! I am worried about my patient I have scheduled today- I think something may have happened to him because his mother and I haven't been able to get a hold of him for weeks! (He has a mental disorder and wanders around a lot. I really hope he is okay!) But something positive is today is my last day of school this week! We did it! One more week down! Only 18 days of school left!!! And it's supposed to be 70 degrees this weekend :)

In Honor of Cheesecake Day

Today is Cheesecake Day (aka the anniversary of when my husband proposed to me!) so I find it fitting to tell the story :)

This picture pretty much says it all. But in short, Michael and I were out to eat at Olive Garden (One of my favorite places). Right after we placed our order, Michael jumped out of his seat and ran away exclaiming he had left his wallet in the car. I could see it in his pocket as he was leaving and tried to call out to him, but off he went! I was cracking up the whole time he was gone! “He’s probably furiously searching his car right now while it’s in his POCKET!! What an idiot” Turns out I was the idiot.
Michael triumphantly threw his wallet on the table when he returned. At the end of our meal the waitress asked if we were ready for dessert. “Oh no, we’re full” was my reply. She responded with a chirpy “Okay I’ll go get your check!” But instead of returning with a check she came back with a cheesecake. I was so confused. “I thought we just said we didn’t want dess- OH." There was a ring next to the cheesecake! Michael got down on his knee right there in the middle of the restaurant!
Turns out, while he was “searching for his wallet” he was really talking to the waitress about his surprise.

Fun fact: While I absolutely love my ring, I love his so much too! I got him a camouflage wedding band from the Jeweler's Bench (Same place he got my ring)

The Road to RDH: Mock Hygiene Clinical

I ALWAYS mean to take before and after pictures on my senior clinic patients and always forget. (For a portfolio, you know!) I FINALLY remembered to do it!

^My mock WREB patient's before and after! Look how healthy her tissues are now on the quad I scaled a few weeks ago! Yay! I love results like this. I cannot wait for her 4 week re-eval right before I graduate! Oh... And I passed :) My clinic coordinator says I am right where I should be.

Sunrise Project: Day 3

All I have to say about this sunrise is wow! So pretty. Wednesdays are my earliest days so seeing this made it a little more worth it! Today I am seeing one of my patients with a mental disorder. She has colorful calculus deposits so I'm excited! I scaled half of her mouth a few weeks ago and get to finish the rest today! I took a before picture and forgot to take an after picture at my halfway point so hopefully I remember today. The calculus deposits are really thick and dense!

Sunrise Project: Day 2

Today's sunrise isn't as powerful or vibrant. However, the snow on the mountains really is pretty! As ususal, this picture doesn't do the sunrise justice.
I'm actually ditching class today, whoops :) But only because I am doing volunteer work! A few classmates and I are going to a health fair this morning to perform oral cancer screenings. (I'll post about it later!) I am excited. This will be a great way to reach out to those otherwise unable to access care, possibly SAVE LIVES, and a great way to advertise ourselves and find patients! I am hopeful about finding a geriatric patient and an adolescent for requirements, though the latter is unlikely. No patients for me in clinic today- I am a facilitator!

Sunrise Project: Day 1

The sunrise is gorgeous this morning. The picture doesn't do it justice, but pictures rarely do. I am optimistic about today! I am ready for my classes and my teacher is actually going to be my patient this afternoon! Her husband is going to be my patient as well. This should be fun and I really look forward to their input! Bring it on, Monday :)

Quote of the Day:

Welcome to The Road to There/The Sunrise Project!

I just realized I never wrote a welcome page! Time to correct this matter!

Why this blog??
I am honestly just starting this blog as an attempt to start journaling. In fact, my friends don't even know this blog exists yet! In fact, I don't know if they ever will! So be prepared for anything and everything to be posted! Who knows, I may have something for you :) I am temporarily changing my blog title from "The Road to There" to "The Sunrise Project" right now because I am up early enough every day to see the gorgeous sunrise. This goes under-appreciated because I am NOT a morning person, and as gorgeous as the sunrise is, I can't help but look forward to not being able to see it every day. I know I will secretly miss it so I am taking a picture of it every time I see it while driving and forcing myself to take the time to appreciate it. I am also going to be posting motivational quotes and other things. This is all because I AM BURNT OUT and really really want to stay as positive as possible through my last month and a half of school!!

But who are you??
I'm not a fan of about me pages, because I feel like they're a boring mix of "me, me, me" and "us, us, us," but allow me to introduce myself properly...

Hi, my name is Jenni!
I'm a:
  • newlywed
  • student
  • dental nerd
  • beginning blogger
and currently trying to lose weight! I enjoy everything outdoors, gardening, reading medical journals (weird, right?), trying out recipes, and working out. I am passionate about being healthy: physically, mentally, DENTALLY, and spiritually. I'm also slightly obsessed with dinosaurs, which means YES: Cabazon, California is on my bucket list and I will be visiting it shortly after graduation.

Enough about me!
I want to know about you! Feel free to say hi!

The Road to: SNOW DAY??!

There was a powerful snow storm this morning that resulted in an onslaught of afternoon patient cancellations. Dental hygiene appointments were dropping like flies which caused a panic among my classmates.  I was lucky, my patient never even considered canceling. He braved the storm for our appointment, but I felt bad for my peers! During lunch we decided the only solution was to make a list of everyone whose patients had canceled and ask Ms. Pierce for a snow day. When I went into her office to hand her the list (which contained half of our class) and beg for mercy she said that she could not give us a snow day because there was no room in our schedule to put a make up day, but she would give everyone a free no-show reversal. Problem solved! Breathe easy seniors! We are almost done!
